For commuting, I'd always lean towards an MTB style system. Any exposed road cleat will suffer quick death under the constant start-stop of that kind of riding. Having said that, I do use Keos on my CAAD9, but that bike is rarely used for commuting. Egg beaters are really, really good if you can stand the float. They also have a universal cleat: it should work on all their pedals.

You might want to try Crank Brothers Candy pedals, because they seem to have somewhat of a platform, which should reduce float and give nicer pressure distribution over your sole.
