Sunday Ride report
Got up had a bagel for breakfast and met Bob at the school about 7am, weather on TV said 47 degrees, I brought a jacket and pants in case it was colder. Sure enough it was 37 degrees not 47. Thanks weather man! I only had the thin gloves and no balaclava. We descended into the Patapsco valley and my hands froze a quick stop at 7-11 for a hot chocolate took care of this. I then led us into a 6 mile wrong turn at Rt 27, no big deal we headed back and figured it out. Ride was VERY hilly kicking my but pretty good, but no climbs where I was under 10-11mph, not to bad. We get to main street Frederick and
Bob gets a bagel, I do a few extra miles and meet him back, I then, needing something to eat get a yogurt? I know WTF was I thinking, I should have got a bagel or muffin, something with SUGER and CARBS!!!, This was only the beginning of some problems, Straight out of Frederick Bob got miles ahead, I think there was crack in his bagel! I went about playing catch up and somehow ended up on I70 for several miles, you’d have to see the turn to understand. I was going along and cars were whizzing past at 80mph and I’m hugging the line, scary. Finally I turn around again and Bob was nice enough to wait for me. I kept up with him pretty good for a while, then we started the hills again. He was gone again. Finaly at total mile #75 I hit 4.5mph uphill! I was beat, I saw another big hill and called this one in to the father in law. I then rested for 20 minutes, downed my last gel and managed to get in over 80 miles total.Pick up point was West Friendship volunteer.
Best I can figure is I made some poor poor food choices, My suger/carbs had to low. I know I burned a ton of it with these hills, also should have had a bigger breakfast.
Food
530am Bagel cream cheese, cup milk
830 gel
1000gel
1030 yogurt**********? Should have got a snickers, choc muffin or bagel
1100 granola bar
1230gel
Plus 3-4 bottles water, I was hydrated good as I did have to go to the bathroom. We avg close to 17 out, by the time SAG got me my avg was 15.6.I estimate about 5000 feet climbing, the 100 mile PA ride was nothing compared to this constant onslaught.
I got home about 230 and now still feel like crap.
I had fun still, definitly would do again. Bob was cool to ride with also, def a strong rider.
