The head lugs and stay caps are chromed. And no, it is not fully chromed under the paint. Given the era, (1974) it is surpising that the stay ends and original fork ends were not chromed, partiucalrly when these were chromed on the lower SHS and SHT. It would have been nice if they had at least chromed the dropout flats. I would rather have had that than chrome stay caps.

I remember when this bicycle first came out. I had modified an SHS by decreasing the fork rake, installing tubulars and upgrading the components. When the sales rep saw my creation, he had a big smile on his face. The next time he came in, he gave me a poster of their new flagship, the SHX! I still have that poster, though it has seen a lot of shop wear.

And one of these days, you'll get to see a CCM Tour du Canada. Real soon, if you find me a headset and freewheel for the SHX.
