Another addition to the stable - 1982 Trek 610
Sorry - kind of a long story. Earlier this summer I was looking for a second road bike, preferrably vintage, to put on my trainer during the winter. I walked into my LBS and asked if he had anything. The owner showed me an old Trek that he'd had sitting there for a long time. He thought it was my size but he needed to try and remember who the owner was before selling it to me. I later measured it at around 47-48 cm and decided it probably wouldn't work for me.
About 5 weeks ago I found a 1984 Gitane Sprint at another shop 40 miles away for $150 (practically all original) and then bought a 1984 Gitane Tour de France a few weeks later (all original except for tires and shifters). My brother then gave me his mid-80's Raleigh Grand Prix for my 12 1/2 yo son to use (and he is loving being out on the road).
With all of this activity my 11 yo daughter decided she wanted to try and go cycling but wasn't comfortable on the Raleigh. I went back to my LBS yesterday and asked if he had ever done anything with the Trek. He hadn't and we pulled it out of the store room and started looking at it. I noticed it had original Suntour Blueline derailleurs, Dia-Compe brakes and Suntour shifters. The owner was impressed with the Benotto tape on the handlebars. It had obviously sat for a long time because the tires had pretty much rotted away. I asked what he wanted for the bike and he said $150. I looked at the components again and agreed to the price. He put a couple of Bontrager tires on it and trued the wheels and I picked it up this morning. After riding around the driveway a little I think I might find myself on the bike a little as well which won't make my daughter very happy.
The serial number is 014631 which the vintage Trek website lists as a 19" 1982 610 model. The frame has some nicks and scratches and very little rust. With a little elbow grease it should really clean up nicely.
