+1 to the Esge Pletscher 2 legged kickstand.
I love this thing. I've had it mounted on a Rocky Mountain Sherpa 30 touring bike for the past year and the only problem I had was it loosening up slightly a couple of weeks after I put it on. Since then it's been steady as a rock and it's been over a year since it was retightened. I would never ride without a kickstand again-and in particular the EP 2 legged on a touring/coummter bike with panniers. I also ride with unbalanced panniers fairly often and still have never dropped the bike. I am careful though not to overpack one side or the other but even when I have I've had no problem.
I use my kickstand every day too so it's not like it's not being used. I understand that they may seem a little expensive but they are worth every penny and they are a heavy duty kickstand. BUY ONE! You won't regret it.
