Just reading the majority of these posts is proof that women need Tittle IX. If you guys had it your way there wouldn't be any amateur women's sports. Just because women cannot always compete head to head with men doesn't mean that they shouldn't have the right to compete against each other. 99.9% of men on this forum could hang on in a women's pro race (DrJ,X,PizzaMan maybe but the rest of us no way). So I guess we shouldn't get to compete either. It's sad that this mentality permeates our society, weather it be sports or math the idea that a women is inferior to a man just because of her gender is ridiculous.
I get your point. If left to men, women would have no organized competition. Agreed. Also agreed that because they cannot compete head to head doesn't mean they shouldn't have competition. The original topic was whether there should be equity in the Olympics. The olympics are marketing. The most viewers get the most sports. Unfortunate but true. Were it not, women's rugby would be on 24/7.
I'll also take some issue with the comparison of math and sports. Its a non-argument. Given the same instruction women are at least as capable in math and sciences as men. Intellectually we're a level playing field. Physically, we aren't. You can argue whether there's opportunity all day long. But eventually it comes to who can generate the most watts/kg right?
