Over here, in Europe almost ALL tourers have kickstands.
(at least that is my perception)
I ran into 4 riders [2 groups of 2] touring from AK to Argentina this summer. 3 of them had kickstands and 1 had a home made "clickstand" type device. One group was European and the other Japanese.
If bikes in North America came with kickstands you'd see lots of people using them, but you have to pay extra for a kickstand and the good ones [like the ESGE 2 legged stand] you'd have to order online...so very few people get over that hurdle.
