I know of a guy who was doing a highspeed descent on a mountain road, came around a curve and found a bunch of ragged asphalt he couldn't avoid; Two blown tires in a second.
Honestly I have only flatted once in nearly 6k miles (of course that was the kiss of death)....maybe 6 times in the last 4 years but that includes a rash of valves ripping off (3 in a week 2 of which happened in my garage) which I blame on a bad batch of tubes.
I never had a flat tire in years of biking. Then I moved to CO; BOTH tires flatted on BOTH bikes in the first two weeks, only doing ROAD riding.
Ever heard of "goatheads".
