If you're planning on patching the tube and then inflating with CO2 you still have to find the leak. I ran into this just the other day. Trying to blow up the old tube with your mouth to find the leak sucks. A mini pump would be handy for that but using it to actually fill the new tube would take forever.
I use the CO2 to find the leak, as well. No sweat.
