Honking is very common here in NYC. I get honked at least once EVERYTIME I go out riding...I guess they're just warning honks.

As a driver, I do honk at some cyclists (the ones who look like it's their first time riding....wheeving in and out).....but it's just a real quick, soft and short warning honk that says "just to let you know, I'm getting closer"
