They are SPD compatible, a little on the expensive side, but considering how many years I've ridden with cold, wet/damp feet it's so worth it. I've found over the last few years I've become unable to tolerate the cold in my extremities as much as I used to. Old man circulation reduction?... bah, who knows? These are the most water/slush proof things I've ever ridden with. The only thing I can think of that is warmer and more moisture proof is Keith's winter method of platforms and Sorels.
