For a commuter bike, where it'll be loaded with stuff anyway, I don't think that there will be enough weight difference to make a big difference one way or another.

You might want to speak to someone at BD to inquire about chainstay length and the geometry of the bike. I know some people have issues with CX bikes because when they use panniers, their heels can hit them.
