It's not an Ohio thing, it is a greater Cincinnati thing. If you travel 50 miles outside of Cincy, the people don't know what it is.

Off to work one morning, I stopped at a restaurant for breakfast. I couldn't have been more than 50 miles out.
Me: I'll have the two eggs, choice of meat breakfast special.
Waitress: The meat?
Me: Goetta.
Waitress: What?
Me: Bacon.

Basically, it is a pork sausage made with pinhead oats and seasonings. The pinhead oats add a texture unlike any sausage I have ever had. But, it really is indescribable. You need to experience it yourself. Goettafest is held by Glier's, the best goetta ever. There is another goetta festival also. That's right, it is so good that we need two festivals!
