Protecting chrome

Here's my question: What's the best way to protect a chrome frame?

Yesterday, I removed all the paint and clearcoat off of an entirely chrome frame. Before I install the headset and bottom bracket, I want to make sure that I don't need to clearcoat the bike. From what I gather, there are two schools of thought regarding the protection of chrome, with some advocating clearcoating, and others advocating waxing/polishing.

After browsing some online motorcycle forums (they love their chrome!), I'm leaning more towards the waxing/polishing route, but am open to other suggestions.

I've searched the forums, read the posts, and searched and read some more. After all the searching and reading, I've come away more confused than before, and would love to hear what has worked well for you. What method(s) have you used, and what have the results been, both short term and long term?

Thanks in advance for all the help.
