Try leading the pack for that duration and see how things hold up, after all, middle of the pack is usually the easiest spot as you're not driving into the headwind and not subject to the accordion effect. Try to talk your fellow group riders into doing random sprints (some with warnings, some without) and join some of those breakaways instead of just bridging up to them.
