Mondays are masters (30+) and Tuesdays are senior men races. I think they are both pretty serious racing (I've done lots of Tuesdays, but I'm just now turning old enough to do Mondays), but the masters are smoother (but faster) and take less risks. If you are old enough, then it's probably wise to start racing on Mondays. Not only are the people taking fewer risks, but if you are still a 5 by then, you get a longer race. The Cat 4/5 race on Tuesdays is only 12 miles.
But those don't start up until around May.
A lot of masters races require that you be a 4 before you can race with them. Don't make the mistake of thinking that just because they are older they will be slower. When the field stacks up with older pros, 1s, and 2s, the masters races can be pretty brutal.
