On cruiser bikes you can kind of get away with just the coaster brake becase who the hell gets up to any sort of decent speed on a cruiser? On a SS road bike you're just asking for a world of hurt.
How is this any different than any of the people running brakeless? You don't see Bianchi getting sued for selling caliper brakes as optional extras when someone who can't stop or ride properly plows into the back of a postal truck...
