on the other side of the coin 9 out of 10 times I nearly got taken out was swerving a wrong way rider.

To me, they are a hazard, and not traffic...traffic follows traffic laws. I'm still a supporter of not swerving for them...now I stop and force them to go around me...I wont apoligise or anything either, since I am in the right. Really I'm sick of this....I've seen bad roads, and there are plenty of ways to deal with it. 45mph is the average speed for cars approaching many freeway onramps...I still change lanes fine.

Just think of it this way...if your riding with traffic your collision is * Traffic speed - bike speed * Riding against is * traffic speed + bike speed* What you did was take twice your speed as a collision modifier..so say a 15mph rider gets hit at 45 mph...that's either 30 or 60mph collision.....

At the end it's your choice, but the safety feeling is merely placebo, and it's making it far more dangerous for cyclists who ride right.
