I saw a story where it said that the passengers on the bus had to make the driver stop to help but can't find it again.
Anyway for the car-free if you guys follow the links provided by the stories above and do some google searches you can see that his life exposes some of the lies that car-culture apologists post here about how car-free people don't travel far from home, or live lives of deprivation or can't advance in their careers. I met him right after he went car free right after he left the Peace Corps and watched him move ahead in the type of life he wanted to live doing what he wanted- car-free too. Not owning a car didn't seem to impede him at all. A few years ago we were talking and he mentioned to me that giving up the car seemed to liberate him as a person. He said when he drove everywhere he felt trapped and constrained. As I recall he was telling me about the different things he got done the night before where if he had tried to zip around in a car all the activities would have been impossible or extremely irritating from driving and parking.
