yes, it's very nice. i've worked in enough places like that to garner this appreciation. i also have a secure "private" indoor parking spot!

i'm thanking my lucky stars... and everyone here for their kind words. this is not the kind of attention i relish, but it's still nice to have some empathy.

ps. iherald: i totally get your point, but i did that mostly for the benefit of the other drivers who were watching because i didn't want to play into the "reckless cyclist" stereotype. taking responsibility for one's stupidity is mature... right??
