For around the house, make sure the light is a simple on-off. None of that 8-mode bananarama. Those will drive you nuts.

I've got two recycled flashlights that had a previous life on my helmet (now the home of two Fenix L2D throwers). One is an on-off. Great. The other has a strobe mode, which is nasty when it fires off in the house. Causes eye-pain and panic.

You can get good, cheap LED flashlights at Harbor Freight, if you have one of those manly toy stores in your city.
