Keep in mind that in addition to the emergency repair gear, for a trip that length you will want to replace some parts before they fail, most notably tires and the chain.

I'd replace the tires every 2,500 miles or so. Also, bring a chain wear checker and replace the chain as soon as it gets too worn. That will prolong the life of the rest of your drive train.
