I'm comforted by all the cold weather cyclists. It was in the teens this morning in St Louis, gusty winds, which is considered "really cold" for St Louis (having lived in Chicago, I chuckle, as I'm sure do you others in the great white north!)
I have to say I finally got my clothing right and was not cold at all. I think the key was the wool scarf and balaclava. Also the ski goggles really helped. New item this winter is lobster gloves with thinsulate which are working really well. Other than that just standard poly jersey with gortex windbreak jacket, wool socks and running shoes, nylon covered lined pants. I find the running shoes work much better than my regular spd's which fit too tight for thick socks and are too well ventilated.
To add to my satisfaction, my boss's car gave out this morning. He is always giving me a hard time about bike commuting. I cant wait to get in a little jab on how unreliable cars are in cold weather!
