yeah, i've done the step up thing before on a few of my older mountain bikes. i went from alivio (similar to acera x) to deore xt, although the deore lx is nice too. a good investment for sure and a few weeks later i upgraded the front derailleur to a deore lx. there arealot of other nice ones out there, but i've always liked deore.
