+1 The stock rims look like steel, but they are actually aluminum. I think the spokes were steel, and the bike has a heavy crankset. All of that can be fixed, particularly at the price point you bought it for.
Dump the pie plate and the chainring guard, and the bike will start looking better immediately! Picture of my 1973 SuperSport.
