The best thing you can do is to lock your bike where there are plenty of people walking around. Avoid locking your bike overnight anywhere outside. Where I go to college, keeping your bike on campus is far safer than off it. We have one street in particular that is notorious for bikes literally getting stripped in broad daylight. If you have streets like that where you are, don't *ever* lock your bike there, even for a few minutes.
