Back in the old days when I rode more in street clothes this used to happen to me occasionally, and it was comical how people would react when I turned down rides. They just couldn't seem to understand why I'd actually want to be doing all that "work!"

I think when you see someone in bike shorts and jersey with a helmet riding a ti bike it's a little clearer that they're not riding because circumstances forced them to.
