I'd imagine it would be slightly more difficult to set up a wider triple with a TA crankset. Given the tendency of newer shaped derailers to hit the crank arm, you would have to find a front derailer that could handle a wide spread, and still shift reliably. Those deraielrs are probably out there, and this is the place to look, but none come to my mind imediatly.

Half Step plus granny just looks cooler anyway, so that's enough reason for me.
