I can understand the emotional connection.
When you take the time some of us do to plan and execute a special build, especially one with older and more unique qualities, it's easy to get attached to it.

Well written. In the next year or so, I'm planning on purchasing a new bike. Looking to spend around $2000-$2500. I couldn't see myself becoming attached to it. But if I were to build a bike from the frame up, I could see myself having an attachment to it.
