I was reading the original MTBR thread on the PondScum light, and I search on the submersible light at Harbor Freight. It comes with different colored lens covers including red. Perhaps this might be a solution? The other thing I was considering was one of these:

Has anyone tried one of these powerflares, they look super bright.. It looks you have to use a caribiner to attach to seatpack.. I am worried that the weight will eventually pull the tab off the back of the seatpack I use, especially at 7 ounces in weight..
