My "Non" Training Regime
Hello all. I've been thinking about the riding I got in over the past year, (my first year competetively cycling- I got into it after last winter), and it seems to me I've improved my fitness a whole lot, (enough to race) without really "training". The thing is, I fear the whole idea of training- that it would sap the fun out of riding my bike (which I enjoy) and turn it into a chore. The mere thought of a turbo trainer makes me want to cry! So all I've done is ride my bike a lot, and hard, which is fun. Here's my "non" training regime I followed over the summer:
Tuesday: Chaingang. REALLY hard, I only was staying on all the way toward the end of the year.
Thursday: Club TT- usually 10 mile, occasionally 25.
Sunday: Clubrun (60-80 miles with a tea stop) with the fastest group going (though at the start of the year I was just riding with the easy ride).
I've improved well enough over the year- better times on the TT's, able to hang in with the Chaingang, and a 4th cat criterium, and a place in an open Hillclimb TT.
But all my racing buddies seem to be monitoring their heart rate, wattage, turbo training, and generally working a lot harder. Is my attitude totally wrong for this sport? Or is getting all technical and scientific unnecessary to enjoy it at an amateur level?
