The rear tire doesn't look to be a good front cornering tire tho- if you have a larger round profile (like an IRC Notos, Mythos) try runnning the front tire rear (it looks 1.95) -to an xc 2.10 front. Or 2.10 rear to 2.25 front.
I find it really works for ht, and your frame has a very high rear triangle, it might lower the feel. This maybe combined with level, or tipping the seat nose and you'll get more fake slack. I try to ballance the seat to pedal and reach so as when i'm climbing, it feels i'm pulling on the grips with my fingers =pull up and plant the tire.
I do this with hard air rear and softer front tire, makes the bike really nice for hopping onto stuff and climbing. Having the rear higher psi keeps the bike fast.
It's got the nice old xc seat up racing geometry, with a short tall rear triangle =stiff?
well...just some ideas for a wrench the bike day.
Thanks for the info. The front tire is a Mythos XC, the rear a WTB VelcitorRaptor. Both tires are 2.10. Right now, I have both tires inflated (if not overinflated) to about 45 psi. I really haven't played around much with tires; it's an area I don't know a lot about, so I'm all ears. Slightly larger tire in the front, huh? Running with a lower pressure than in the rear? Very interesting -- I'll have to give that a try when the front tire needs replacing.
FWIW, most of the trails around here are rocky (as opposed to rooty or muddy).
