I bought my daughter (17 now) a new bike in April, same time I bought my hybrid. She rode it with me a few times, and to school a few times, but won't ride it anymore. She's overweight, and really needs some exercise... but she's 17 now, and lives with her mother. There's not much I can do. The best thing you can do is lead by example. When she's ready, she will follow.
And I love your blog. I think what you're doing is great - you're showing that getting fit and healthy is a little common sense and a lot of hard work. There's no mystery to losing weight, and I just wish more people would understand that. Besides what you're doing for your health, you are also doing something far greater for society. Obesity is crippling our health care system right now. Medicare and Medicaid are spending billions of dollars treating conditions that are simple complications of obesity.
