They also are more likely to go 200-250K+ miles without major repairs than American cars. I'd agree if you're keeping a car for 44-80K miles, you might have a case, but that's not how we drive. Most Americans do, but the big problem is lack of confidence in the Big 3 on the long term reliability issue.
Honestly you can't make sweeping references. I know you just did.

You can find owners of any brand that have gone 200k without issue. Take BMW with their venerated big six. Head gaskets will normally give it up in the 150k zone. I don't dispute that Japanese cars are very reliable.
