Transportation into DC is a bit of a challenge I guess. He suggested boarding a county bus nearby, going to the metro. He also suggested riding in, but this is supposed to be a day off the bikes, and I don't really want to be herding 12 kids on bikes in the city.
All in all though, it looks like a great place to stay.
I'm glad to hear that this will work out for you, and happy I was able to be of assistance.
Montgomery County Ride-On provides bus service in the area. Bus 32 operates Mon-Fri during morning and evening rush hours only and will drop you off at the Bethesda Metro. It's about a quarter mile walk down MacArthur Blvd to the intersection of Whiterim Terrace and Belfast Road. Metro is an adventure all in itself (mostly positive IMHO - YMMV).

If the limited public transportation doesn't fit your needs, perhaps there is a Scout troop in the area that can help you with your transportation logistics... Have you contacted the BSA's National Capital Area Council or the Montgomery District?
