I had MKS pedals on my Dahon Jetstream XP and Speed TR. I live in Okinawa and it's subtropical and it rains when you least expect it. It only took me about two slips and blood on the shins before I pulled those pedals off and replaced them with the Dahon folding pedals. Suntour I think.
Heavier? Yes. But I haven't busted my shins since.
