Mario's spade cutouts also evolved, but the American production frames all have the same basic shape, done by a SoCal engraving outfit, the graphic design came first, before the Los Angeles operation started. The lug cutouts either initiated the graphics or the graphics were the germination for the lug cutouts he is most known for.
Yes I agree with your braze on front assessment although there were supposedly some experiments in the early 70s. Here is a photo of my 1979/1980 Freschi Supreme with early experimental front braze on with engineered parts to make the system work.
