If you have access to a Dremel tool, you can grind the cones.

Put a cordless drill in a vice for stability. Put an axl with the cone in the cordless drill. Spin the drill slowly while grinding the cone with a fine Dremel stone.

You can polish the new surface by spinning it in sand paper for a while.
