Actually I live just outside London where the roads in one direction head towards the city, and in the other direction head towards open roads. But the open roads are not as open as you'll find in USA, and not as sunny most of the year (and when it is supposed to be sunny, it's not).

So if you live near a great road, take a moment to appreciate your surroundings. I suppose I should do, it could be a lot worse. And I guess everything looks brighter (pun intended) when the sun's out.
my condolences.

have you been on british trains, post privatization?

I miss riding in the UK. I have a place just North of London (Harrow) and the rides out of town, into Hertfordshire, were great. I spend most time back in the UK in Somerset with my in-laws. the riding there is great.

On the whole I find UK drivers to be very cycle friendly.
that makes one of us.
