I'm sure my experience is anecdotal, but my mid-80's blue metallic Trek 400 has the worst paint job of any bike I've ever owned - the top tube was peeling off in large flakes within a year. If this was Imron, I hate to think what a lesser paint would do. I had it repainted with some sort of epoxy paint the frame painter recommended ten years ago, and 5K miles later it looks brand new today.
