I use my trainer for warming up at TT's. Period. I have a road bike with winter(y) tires and an MTB with knobbies, both with fenders. I watch out for the ice. It's dicey, but that's how I ride all winter. Straight through the winter the past several years. Rarely miss more than two straight days on the bike.
