I have 55 hard miles in my legs, including 40 chasing around the local Cat Two from Hell up every grinder in Orange County. The only way I'm getting up Mt. Doom in the snow is SEATED, because if you stand when the road is coated with snow, your rear wheel slides out. That kinda sucked. But I did make it.

I ride in these conditions because:

1.) I really can't handle riding indoors on a trainer

2.) I'm addicted to endorphins, endorphin withdrawal is worse than dealing with icy roads and cold

3.) Our first race series (and arguably the one most important to my team) is only 7 weeks away

Those are the inspirations you need. Self-centered ones. Because if you have to look to an idiot like me for that, you're not going to venture out on your road bike when it's below 20ºF much.
