Good information. You are lucky to have someone with inside information offering such useful tips. Does he offer tips for the other stages as well?

From my experiences working and watching the Tour de Georgia, I advise people to try to see:

- A stage start. This where you have the best chance of seeing the racers and the team personnel as they get ready for the day's race. Find the areas where the team buses park for the best access. There are many opportunities to talk with some of the racers and team managers, especially the non-superstar ones. Next best is the sign in area and the adjacent "autograph alley".

- A hard climb. The riders are passing by slowly and in smaller groups so you can see the expressions on their faces and get good pictures. It is also a good chance to see race changing moments on the hardest climbs, especially if the finish line is at the top of the climb.

- A finish line or finishing circuit. They will have the race announcers blaring through loudspeakers and the big video screens set up showing the action on the course. There will be booths set up selling race paraphernalia and some free swag. In the case of a circuit finish, you'll get to see the race pass by a few times as the strategies are played out for the stage win.

- A feed zone. You'll get to see the teams set up their feeding stations and you'll have a shot at picking up good souvenirs, discarded water bottles and feed bags.

- Sprint lines. These aren't always very exciting, but you may be able to catch one after watching a start or on your way to a finish.

Avoid the zoo if you like, but remember, it's all happening at the zoo.
