"True, it's not a blog, it's a marketplace.

Some of us are just frustrated because we see the things offered on this marketplace being mutilated - there's no other word for it. When you take a piece of classic craftsmanship and chop off key parts of it for the sake of style, it's mutilation.

And when I say craftsmanship, I'm not just talking about a Merckx or a Pinarello. A lugged steel, double-butted Univega or Panasonic or Miyata or Peugeot or (fill in the blank) is just as classic to someone who would love it if they had a chance to buy it unmolested.

And what do the hipsters accomplish by mutilating these classics? A lot of the "fixies" I see on the web are totally dangerous for street riding; no brakes, no toe clips/straps to secure your feet(brake substitutes), and fixed cogs with same threaded lockrings to hold them on. A brakeless track bike with reverse-threaded lockring over the cog used on a velodrome is a specialized piece of gear for a controlled environment; a converted brakeless hipster fixie in the real world is a dangerous toy.

It's a free country and I guess you're entitled to kill or maim yourself if you choose to, but the rest of us pay a price for your choice. And if you kill or injure someone else with your "art", they pay too. Take your art to Burning Man or a gallery if you want it to be appreciated.

So is this a rant, or a public service announcement? "
