Sucks that you wrecked it already. I'm sure you did, but did you loosen the zip tie and see if the speed function returned? I wonder how hard you cranked on the tie...I've installed two and haven't had any issues yet. Of course, I've just jinxed myself. You probably got a bad wire from the start, I bet it had a short in it before you attached it and using the zip tie did it in.

That's adjustable. They provide a small piece of rubber to pad the bars but the bracket has a sliding part that can be tightened or loosened.

Hope your new wire doesn't get smushed.
