52-10 compared to 53-11

I have a bike that has 52-10 as it's top gear, and I've been hearing a lot about "spinning in 53-11" but they seem the same to me, i mean, one less tooth on the chainring makes it easier to pedal by 1 tooth, and 10 on the rear makes it harder by 1 tooth to pedal, 1 - 1 = 0 difference, right?
Are they the same?
