As you probably know, that model was the first Japan built Schwinn. It did not boldly say "Schwinn" for fear there would be a backlash of American prejudice to a non-USA built bike. But it was so well received, the following year Schwinn began branding these Panasonic built bikes as their own "Schwinn Approved." The rest is history.
