Cross bikes are great do everything bikes.

I would get a cross bike if you wanted to ride on the road and hit some mud/dirt trails as well. A simple change of wheels or tires would allow you to do both.

However, if you want to ride only on the road, I would recommend that you check ebay for a used ti bike. There are deals to be had.

There's no point getting a cross bike if you don't plan on riding atleast some off road stuff.
