I still get pretty excited about a new bike so I know how you feel. You really do need to get a lighter car.

The '04 Sirrus Comp comes with Shimano 505R SPD pedals. My Pro came with 525's which are very similar. One bonus is that the pedals came with a platform insert on one side so you do not have to use bike shoes.

Make sure that the bike shop remembers to deliver you the SPD cleats which come with the pedals. SPD shoes are very common as SPD cleats are often used for MTB's. But they work pretty well on the Sirrus.

I would definitely get some shoes. Since most bike shoes come in european sizing you might be better off getting them at your LBS. If you know your sizing well enough - and always get a least one size larger than you get in street shoes - then you might try Bike Nasbar - where I have had good luck over the years - or some place similiar. I got some close out Diodora's at half price that have been great. While you want a stiff sole for pedalling efficiency remember also that you will probably want to walk around in the shoes some. Most SPD shoes have some type of lugged sole which is another advantage to SPD pedals as the cleats are fairly well protected when walking.

Installation of the cleats is straightforward but you need to make sure that the cleats are installed parallel to the centerline of the shoes.

I hope this helps. Good luck tomorrow and make sure to send us a picture!
