How about loosening all the spokes, then lay the rim on a flat and level surface, place a flat board over the top and finally weights on it. See if you can't get the rim to flatten out before you try truing it? I would suspect that would be an easier, yet cumbersome, way to get the spoke tensions to be equal once you re-true it.
